thessalonians notes

Chapter 1

-Paul,Silas and Timothy are writing to the church of the Thessalonians and wish grace and peace to them.

Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians Faith

-Paul starts off this letter by telling them that they have continuously and will continue to pray for them and they recognize the work produced by their faith and the labor prompted by their love and the endurance inspired by hope in Jesus Christ.

-He tells them that because they are loved by God he has chosen them and the gospel Paul is telling them is not simply words but also power!! He applauds them for becoming imitators of him and becoming role models to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia and that their faith has become known everywhere. He is happy that they have turned from Idols to serve the one true Living God.

Chapter 2

Pauls Ministry in Thessalonica

-He tells them that his visit was not without results and tells them about how he previously suffered and was treated horribly in Phillipi but with the Lord's help he still proclaimed the gospel. He tells them that he speaks as a person entrusted with the Gospel approved by God because what he preaches is not to please people but rather to please God. He reminds them of how he did not use flatter or put on a mask to cover up greed. He tells them how he was not looking for praise from people even though they could’ve asserted their authority as Apostles of Christ.

-Paul says just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so did they care for the church of the Thessalonians. He tells them how delighted he was to not only share the gospel but also his life. He reminds them of the hard work they did in order not to be a burden to anyone while he was preaching. Paul reminds them of the fatherly love he showed them encouraging, comforting and urging them to live lives worthy of God.

-Paul thanks God because when they received the word they did not receive it as human words but rather as the word of God. He tells them that the things they suffered are also what those who are following the church of Christ in Judea are suffering and how they drove them out. They are making an effort to keep Christ's followers from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved and their sins are stacking up, however the wrath of God has come upon them at last.

Pauls Longing to See the Thessalonians

-Paul tells the Thessalonians how he longed to see them when they were separated and how Satan blocked their way time and time again but finally they overcame. And he ends by telling them that they are his glory and joy.

Chapter 3

-When Paul and Silas couldn’t stand it any longer they thought it would be best to stay in Athens and sent Timothy to strengthen and encourage them in their path. He tells them that they are destined for these trials and that he often told them how he would be persecuted and it turned out just like that, but when he couldn’t stand it any longer he sent out to find out about their faith. He was afraid that the tempter(Satan) had tempted them and their labors were in vain.

Timothy’s Encouraging Report

-Timothy brought back good news about how they long to see Paul and Silas and this encouraged them through all their distress and persecution. Night and day Paul prays that he may see them again and supply what is lacking in their faith. He prays that The Lord clears a way for them to go to the people of Thessalonians and that their love may increase and overflow for each other and everyone else and that their hearts would be strengthened d and blameless in the presence of God.

Chapter 4

Living to Please God

-Paul urges them to live to please God as they know what instructions he gave them by the authority of Jesus. It is God’s will that we should be sanctified and learn to control our own bodies in a way that is holy and honorable. God will punish those who commit such sins, He did not call us to be impure but to live a holy life. Therefore if anyone rejects jej instruction does not reject a human being but God. Paul then writes to them to continue growing their love for one another and to make it their ambition to lead a quiet life, mind their own business and work with their hands so that their daily life may win the respect of outsides and they will not be dependent on anybody.

Believers Who Have Died

-Paul tells them that he does not want them to be like the rest of mankind who have no hope for an afterlife but instead he wants them to know that all who have fell asleep in Christ will rise with him. It talks about how when Christ returns he will with a loud command, the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call od God raise those who are dead in him and after that all who are still alive will catch up together with them in the clouds to go be with the Lord forever.

Chapter 5

So Paul starts by saying, “Look, no one really knows when Jesus is coming back it’s gonna be sudden, like a thief pulling up in the middle of the night.” People will think everything’s all good, and then outta nowhere, boom destruction hits. But then he reminds them, “Y’all aren’t in the dark like that. You know what’s up, so don’t get caught off guard.”

He tells them to stay awake and alert not just physically, but spiritually. Like, don’t be moving through life asleep. Stay focused, keep your faith and love strong, and protect your mind with hope, like armor.

He’s real clear: God didn’t put us here to face His wrath. We were meant to be saved through Jesus. And whether we’re alive or passed on when Jesus comes back, we’ll still live with Him. So keep encouraging each other and building each other up.

Then Paul wraps it up with a prayer, asking God to make them whole spirit, soul, and body and to keep them strong and blameless until Jesus returns. And he says, “God is faithful He’ll make it happen.”

Finally, he asks them to pray for him and his crew, to show love to each other, and to make sure everyone hears what he wrote.

Then Paul gives some solid life advice:

• Respect your leaders and appreciate the people helping guide you.

• Stay peaceful with each other, no unnecessary drama.

• Look out for people who are struggling. Help them out, don’t leave them behind.
